Love this. A lot.
There I was, happily snapping away, using the glorious setting that is the iPhone panorama mode, so focused on the beautiful church that I didn’t notice this character until I was flicking though my photos the next day! Classic.
Quick sketch of a cheeky grin - may finish it one day!
Caught this as the tube went through the station in NYC! Totally unexpected, but well chuffed with the shot!
I know that nowadays, most cultures in the world are ‘up-to-date’ as it were…but there was just something about this lady that caught my attention: the mobile phone, the SLR camera and her body language doesn’t seem to fit in with the abaya she is sporting. Let me explain:
When I went to Dubai, I visited the ‘Mall of the Emirates’ (the shopping centre with the indoor ski slope inside) and, upon entry, I was faced with a large sign which prohibited ‘kissing or overt displays of affection’ and ‘non-respectful clothing’, amongst others. I knew these rules before we came to Dubai, along with everyone else, but I guess I’d assumed that these were ‘unwritten’ rules and that it was simply looked down upon.
Dubai is strange in that it IS quite liberal along with being quite strict: there are skantily clad models on billboard adverts and one of the slogans in a chocolate shop selling valentine treats was ‘In love? Declare it!’…but when I was watching ‘The Illusionist’ on TV over there, the slow music built up to the lovers’ kiss, there was a sudden change in music and I was shown the main actors putting their clothes BACK on - the sex scene had been removed…!
I know that owning an SLR and chatting away on a mobile in public are completely different than this, but the modern concept of capturing moments in an instant, and calling up your mate whenever you like seemed like a mile away from much more ‘inflexible’ ideas…
But maybe I’m just totally clueless…! Must go back to Dubai to explore this further… :P
This is the view of the field next to the road which takes me home. When I see this, I know I only have 7 more minutes in the car. I’m going home on Friday. I can’t wait.
Mr Hudson, Glasgow. Wasn’t a huge fan before this gig, but it was out of this world.
This, my friends, is glorious.
If you can’t tell your mum that you love her on Mother’s Day, when can you…?!
(I think I have a slight obsession with Stop Motion…)
Music: ‘Lover’s Carvings’ - Bibio
I reckon these 2 photos pretty much sum up my best mate Lizzie. Words don’t really do them (or her) justice.
A friend suggested this to me and I thought it so hilarious I thought I’d do a quick stencil. (Needless to say, I’m amused pretty easily…)
Went for a wee adventure on Sunday - was the weirdest weather! We had sun, storms, snow, sub-zero temperatures… I loved how the sun totally illuminated the sea while the storm approached us in the distance. Beautiful.
Waiting on that all-important reply…
